The eIDAS (electronic Identification, Authentication and Trust Services) regulations oversees trust services and establishes the legal framework for electronic signatures in the European Union. The regulation distinguishes three levels of electronic signatures: a simple electronic signature (SES), an advanced electronic signature (AES) and a qualified electronic signature (QES). Qualified electronic signature is the safest method to prove the identity in the digital environment and has the same legal effect as a wet-ink signature. An electronic signature is valid when it is based on a qualified certificate.
QES can be used in a business environment, in relations with public administration and on daily activities.
